| Hill Myna (Gracula religiosa) |
| These are Hill Myna's or Talking Myna's as there are referd to here. This is another bird that is very heavily persecuted for the pet trade. In recent years , Hill Myna's have been captured in large numbers for the pet trade. In some areas they have been extirpated. Most of them here on Luzon are smuggled in from the Island of Palawan and fetch between $60 to $110. They can mimick any sound in the forrest, and are very noisy and talkative. I have two here that mimick many words, babies crying, dogs barking, cats meowing, cell phone ringtones, motorcycle horns etc. You name it and they can mimick it. It is too bad that they are so heavily persecuted because at the alarming rate it is being done, there may soon not be any left in the wild. I have searched endlessly and have yet not found anyone breeding them in captivity if at all possible. |
