This is part of a petition to collect data such as names or numbers to be forwarded to local and national level government offices, to step up their campaign for wildlife protection and distribution of information. I am getting tired of fighting this battle alone. It seems as though I am the only one here that can see what is going on and heads are being turned either because of lack of initiative or in most cases lack of manpower or funding. I have been putting the word out for years, and the last straw was the senseless slaughter of a beautiful raptor. CLICK THE DOA SLAUGHTER BUTTON BELOW I am going to step out on a limb and pursue the government of the Philippines to get off their rear ends, and start an information campaign like they should be doing. The Government of the Philippines both on local and national levels needs to step up its campaign on endemic wildlife issues. There are many laws pertaining to the protection of wildlife here, however, little if any are known to the general public or are being enforced on local levels due to influence and power of those breaking the laws. The proliferation and selling of endangered endemic wildlife in the Philippines as well as the hunting and killing for pure sport is still a major issue that needs to be addressed. So many so called pet stores in small outlying provincial communities still deal in the sales of Blue Naped Parrots, Palawan Hill Mynas, Philippine Hanging Parrots, Chestnut Munias, Doves, and yes even Hornbills, Eagles, Kites, and Owls. The sport of shooting raptors needs to come to a stop immediately! People are not aware of their importance to the fragile eco-system here, and the Philippine Government needs to step up immediately, and develop an intense television/newspaper campaign and get the word out to its people. There are many caring individuals in the area of wildlife protection, yet the number of uninformed greatly out ways the informed. Local DENR's need to get out and visit schools from the elementary to college level and conduct presentations and lectures on the importance of wildlife preservation and some of the laws pertaining to such. Local and major news networks, newspapers, radio, and officials conducting presentations would stop a majority of the illegal activities in no time at all. If a person knew he/she was subject to heavy fines/imprisonment for the killing or sales of protected wildlife, they would on a majority cease their activities, or at least be informed what they are doing is wrong. It ceases to amaze me that there are individuals who honestly don’t know. They don’t realize the importance of this wildlife and that they should be preserving it for future generations to enjoy. This word needs to get out to the general public, not stored in a database, a website, or buried in a folder on some ones desk. Help me by filling out the form...let’s see how many signatures we can get to let the government know we care and that they should care enough to inform their people with a mass media campaign.
